Back in the day when Reels weren’t a #thng and infinite scrolling wasn’t a concept, one man had all our attention. Bhuvan Bam, better known as ‘BB ki Vines’, is the real OG of our content creating generation.

His funny and quirky content was much of the content we watched on Facebook, and now he is dominating our Instagram with the same hilarious characters and skits.

If by some chance you don’t know who he is, Bhuvan is a multi-talented creator, actor, singer, host, and voice-over artist. He has a terrific 14 million-strong Instagram presence and falls under the mega-influencer category.

Content tips distilled from Bhuvan Bam’s Instagram Handle

Curated grids or colour schemes aren’t part of his Instagram game, but what we can learn from him is the art of content creation. The art of transcending from becoming a content creator to becoming a face we see on TV. The art of creating content that is so good that it still gets love from people so many years later.

Also, for the sake of simplicity, we will refer to Bhuvan Bam by BB.

1. All you need is a start

Motivation gets you started, and consistency helps you finish. Haven’t we all heard that before? BB started by making videos of himself and by himself in his shanty room, giving life to different characters. No fancy cameras, no dedicated crew. Just a front-facing camera from his phone and his characters still live on eight years later.

If you want to get started, there’s nothing that should come in the way of creating content and putting it out into the universe. Life is too short for regrets anyway, so you might as well be making the most of what you have.

If you are putting off creating content because you don’t have that new fancy camera or a MacBook Pro to edit your videos on, then pause for a moment and think about what Titu Mama will have to say to you. (Also read this to know which equipment and apps you need.)

Getting started is the biggest obstacle. Once you cross that, things get easier.

2. Your audience is the biggest weapon in your arsenal

Your biggest tool and asset is your audience. A loyal and dedicated audience will literally move mountains for you (well, not literally, we mean metaphorically, but you get the point). Bhuvan Bam went from having an audience on Facebook, then to YouTube, and now enjoys a killer following on Instagram.

Wherever BB goes, his audience follows.

Why?

That’s because he has constantly entertained them, and in return, they have made the journey across platforms for him. So, as a content creator, you need to ask yourself why you are doing what you are doing.

Ideally, your goal should be to provide as much value to people as you can. But if it’s fame and recognition you are looking for, then get in line. There are thousands of other people with the same aspirations. It’s not a viable strategy for long-term success if you aspire to make a living from social media. People demand authenticity and honesty.

Create content for the right reasons, and fame and popularity will come your way eventually. Inform, educate, or entertain, know what resonates with your audience and connect with them. It’s fairly easy if you’re being authentic.

If what you are doing is just for the camera, people will see right through the facade. Trust us. That’s why so many content creators face burnout. That is because it’s difficult to sustain the fake it till you make it approach. You gotta be YOU.

3. Dedication, dedication, dedication. Then some more dedication.

Building an audience can sometimes be easy. Sometimes all you need is one viral post, and you suddenly wake up with a hundred thousand followers.

Easy-peasy, right? Right. But to retain those followers month after month and year-on-year is a whole different ball game.

Making content requires lots and lots of hours of brainstorming, meticulous planning, and flawless execution. Then you wake up the next day and have to do it all over again. And again, and again.

BB is the best example of keeping the grind going. He has diversified into making his own web series, talk shows and even has his own music out.

Now, you don’t have to do all these #thngs, but you have to put in serious efforts to keep your content fresh and different. Luck might get you a following, but your consistency will keep them around.

4. Own your identity

Bhuvan Bam’s Instagram handle is filled with a diverse variety of posts. He uploads photos from his modelling photoshoot, candids, and some not-so candids. It doesn’t matter. The posts can be brand deals and ads, or just fleeting thoughts he has. There is no specific chain linking one with the other; he does what comes naturally to him.

That’s another content tip for any creator. Do what comes naturally to you. Your goal should be to turn your audience into a community where everyone feels included in your life. Another content tip here is to open up about personal issues. It makes you more relatable and, most of all, real
