As the holidays approach (at least for everyone not living in India), content creators begin to wonder what sorts of Christmas content ideas they should be producing.

After all, there are only so many Christmas and New Year-related videos or blog posts one can make before it starts to feel a bit repetitive.

So, with carols, jingle bells, and rum cakes around the corner, we compiled a list of Christmas content ideas for social media that bring all the festive feels.

‘Tis the season for Christmas content ideas for 2022

The holidays are a great time for content creators to get creative and produce some truly festive and unique content.

And it’s never too early (or too late) to cue the music, put on the cosiest PJs, and post some feel-good Instagram posts for Christmas!

Why?

Because holiday posts (both genuine and organic ones) are a great way to increase engagement on social media.

Ready to end the year with a bang?

Here are our best Christmas content ideas for 2022 to help you prepare your social media posts!

Leaving the creativity up to you (because you know your audience best), we simply list ideas.

1. Give your feed a holiday revamp

This is one of the simplest holiday social media post ideas. But it works.

Change your bio, profile photo, or even the cover images of Highlights to reflect Christmas and the coming new year.

A Santa cap, a wreath, or even green, red, and golden colours are excellent ways to increase engagement.

2. How-to Christmas posts

How-to posts make for some of the best Christmas content ideas. From house décor to how to wrap gifts to what to wear for theme parties, people always engage with this type of content.

3. Christmas outfit ideas

Get into the holiday spirit with a festive outfit haul. Show your viewers how you plan to dress for all the holiday parties and events this year.

4. Recipes for Christmas and New Year’s parties

For food bloggers, this time of the year is off-the-charts good. Share indulgent recipes or promote healthy dishes; as long as they have holiday spirit, you’re golden.

Our tip? Add some Christmas Instagram captions (click that link for some marvellous ones) to the posts!

5. Christmas posts that include gift ideas

We are perpetually out of gift ideas. It is the hardest #thng to do. That’s why we love such Instagram post ideas for Christmas! Curate a list with Christmas gifts; we promise half the engagement will come just from us!

6. Share photography tips

Holidays mean parties, and that means a lot of selfies and plandid photos. So, that makes for another awesome Christmas content idea for social media. Post about what poses to strike, how to take the best photos in low light or any other photography tips.

7. Use add yours sticker on Stories

The “Add Yours” sticker is a feature on Instagram Stories. That makes it 2x as likely to bring you engagement and reach. When you’re sharing holiday-themed Stories, include the sticker.

It’ll prompt others to add their version, creating a whole thread. Since anyone can see the thread, it increases your discoverability!

8. Listicles and carousel

People love bite-sized content. Make it visual, and they go ga-ga. A holiday-themed list is the next content idea to bring festive feelings. From bucket lists for the season to what charity you’re donating to, post fun and informative listicles, reels, or videos.

9. 12 posts for 12 days of Christmas

12 days of Christmas content ideas are the new #thng. 12 gifts, 12 outfits, 12 recipes, 12 places, 12 good deeds, 12 exercises – pick your poison and run with it. Pre-plan your posts for each of the 12 days and make it a countdown. It’s a fantastic tactic to get your followers involved.

10. Live streams for a virtual holiday

2020 was the year for live streams. They’ve mainly died down now, but they’re still an awesome idea to expand your engagement on social media because they feel more intimate. Host a workshop or class (Psst: use DYT Studio to host one).

Or simply talk to your followers about what they have planned for the holidays and checklist some cool Christmas content ideas for 2022.

11. Caption-this Christmas posts

Take your standard social media post ideas and add a seasonal spin! Pop onto Instagram and post a Christmassy-looking photo, asking your audience to provide a fun caption idea. You can do this just for laughs or giggles, or make it into a competition.

One must-follow rule for holiday content ideas

Limit your sponsored posts.

People SHOP during festivities. That means brands will be knocking at your door for collaboration. It’s hard to turn them down (and the moolah), but we caution you to be selective for 3 reasons:

  1. Creating too much content will lead to burnout, and you do not want that.
  2. If your Christmas Instagram feed is just a roll call of #sponsored #ad, your engagement will drop.

Think about it this way: Would you binge-watch Wednesday if half of it was ads? We suggest keeping 25% of your posts branded and the rest organic.

  1. After all, it is the holiday season and the end of the year. You should have some free time to celebrate and unwind.

Putting the bow on Christmas content ideas

By now, you’ve got the social media post ideas for Christmas down pat.

And you know engagement is going to be through the roof.

But there is one more #thng you can do to improve your reach: find the right time to post on Instagram.

We deferred to smarter minds to answer this critical question. Planoly found, after analysing thousands of posts, that these are the times that bring in the most engagement:
