Influencers of the online world, wake up. It is that time of the year when the spirit of giving is alive and social media is the place to bundle that warm, fuzzy feeling to get more engagement out of your followers.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending upon which side of the table you are, come festivities and the social sky lights up with hundreds of beautifully crafted posts. The question then becomes, how do you shine brighter than others?

How Can A Content Creator Use Diwali To Increase Engagement?

For us, Diwali is what the West calls ‘holiday season’, rather it is the entire month of October. From Dussehra to Bhai Dooj, the festivities span the whole four weeks. Why are we mentioning it? Celebrations mean free time which means your audience is more likely to spend more time on social platforms. So, use the opportunity to grab their attention and increase your social media engagement. 

The Obvious:

Publish at least one Diwali-related post.

The When:

Since the festival is technically five days long, utilise the extra time. A tweet wishing everyone #HappyDiwali on D-day is all well and good, but if you want maximum traction upload something before or after too. Plan and execute content for the extended period of 5 days to get higher recognition and engagement.

The What:

The ideas are endless. Diwali is about food, lights, clothes, accessories, décor, crackers, religion – the list goes on and on. There is not a single type of creator who can’t get creative with social media posts.

  • If you are a beauty blogger, try a series of videos on YouTube with a makeup look for each day of Diwali.
  • Half of India is travelling during Diwali in their rush to be at home. If you’re a travel vlogger, try posting a real tale on Instagram Stories with tips on #TravelDuringDiwali.
  • Encourage your followers to share their plans for the festival season. Think images on Instagram with #OOTD.
  • Hold giveaways. People love free stuff and when it is offered during a time when the pocket is all strapped (#LosingAtTeenPatti), it’s even better.
  • Collaborate with other creators to generate unique content. Think Snapchat and Spotify bringing the Gateway of India to life with the Landmarker Lens.

Lastly, connect with brands and promote their Diwali offers. Every brand under the sun leverages the reach of influencer marketing during this season. Remember Parle launching a Diwali campaign where bloggers had to upload dishes made with Parle stuff? That’s what we’re talking about. 

The Where:

If Twitter is your stomping ground, commemorate the special occasion with a thread about the festival. If Instagram is where you hold clout, upload Diwali-prep pictures. As we always say, stay true to your brand image and your social platform.

That said, during Diwali, Facebooks sees ‘1.12x increase in content creation and 1.07x YOY increase in conversations.’ Somehow, it is the preferred place to celebrate the festival of lights. Our advice is to do your usual thing and create at least one Facebook content.
